Can you help identify this mother and her baby from Srebrenica?
It is no secret that Serb forces deliberately targeted and killed women and children in Srebrenica during the brutal siege of this enclave. For example, the April 1993 Srebrenica Children Massacre is one of many examples of Serbian brutality. It is also not secret that many babies succumbed to the heat and lack of medical supplies during the siege and fall of Srebrenica (1992-1995).
The following photograph from July 1995 shows Srebrenica refugees seeking safety near a UN compound in Potocari. Baby in woman’s arms has blood all over his/her face. We don’t know the identity of this woman or her baby, nor do we know the source of this photograph. Click this photograph for higher resolution.
If you know who took the photograph or the identity of this woman, please let us know by commenting on the Srebrenica Genocide Blog, perhaps we could interview her and get update what happened to the baby. Thank you for your assistance.
